After managing computer repair shops and working computer retail. I've realized that it's expensive to run a store front, very expensive. Retail shops pay at least $3,000 in the store front alone (not including the help). I had to charge my client at least $100 minimum for under an hour's service. Which is understandable, because somebody has to pay the rent. I've decided that I don't need a store front for people to get the best service possible. Not only can I give them rates half the price of a retail chain, but I can give them instant service too. And, if the job ends up being too big, just drop it off for a flat rate price.

When I was the Computer Administrator for USPS in the 342 area, they had me taking care of over 200 computers all networked with many types of servers. At the time I wasn't familiar with netware which was the main server for all the computers. It was very intimidating to walk up to the wall of computer monitors and be the one responsible to keep things up and running. One wrong button and crash. So I got as many books as I could and studied and memorized as much as I could absorb,it took a couple weeks but I mastered it well enough to keep everything running smoothly.
When your the manager of a computer repair shop - the buck stops here. When it comes to solutions, it's great to ask for advise. But, if no one's above you, you need to figure it out on your own. I love the challenge of a new problem, I've rarely been stumped but when I do, I know it's time to study and learn some more. And with computers, that means continuously.
